The Hunter Seeker - An eerie little killer sent out to poison Paul Atreides
(Kyle MacLachlan).
Masterminded by Mechanical Effects Supervisor Kit West and his Crew.
Made of metal, resin and fiberglass. The stylistic needle was affixed to a glass plate
and then 'shot' as if it was flying through the air.
Kit:"...the Hunter Seeker was built by my department.
The original design was from Anthony Masters, our Production Designer."

Kit:" A lot of the shots we moved the seeker stuck on a sheet of glass, and
the glass moved on rollers in tracks".
Kit, I read somewhere that you used compressed air to get the needle on speed?
Kit:"I do not remember ever projecting the Seeker by compressed air.
Just moving it very fast on the glass...".
What a spooky scene, splendid!

A view through the 'nose cone' of the Hunter Seeker.

A great effect.
Kit:" ... the director wanted a Hunter Seeker's point of view as it floats about looking for
its victim.
What the photo shows is a enlarged front cone of the Hunter Seeker through which the camera
shoots as it is 'dollied' around the set.
Gordon Hayman is the camera operator on the 'Hunter Seeker' sequence."
